We are thrilled to welcome undergraduates to the San Roman Lab beginning summer 2024! No prior research experience is required.
Duke undergrads join the lab either through work-study or taking independent study for credit. Please reach out to Adrianna by email to express interest.
Summer students join the lab through paid summer research programs at Duke, including:
MGM Sure Fellows Program - 10 weeks mid-may through July; for Duke undergraduates only; applications due in March
Summer Scholars Program in Genome Sciences & Medicine - 1st and 2nd year undergraduates from any university; applications due in January
Duke Summer Research Opportunity Program - applications due in January
Amgen Scholars Program - applications due in February

Prospective graduate students should apply for admission to the Duke Graduate School. Relevant graduate programs are: the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, the University Program in Genetics & Genomics, the Developmental and Stem Cell Biology Program, the Program in Cell and Molecular Biology, the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Program, and the Duke MSTP Program. Please note that requirements and deadlines may vary between the programs and deadlines are usually in late November or early December. If you have a particular interest in our lab, you may note this in your application.
Current graduate students should contact Adrianna to discuss a rotation in the lab. Rotation opportunities will be available starting in winter 2024.

Postdoctoral associates are recruited on a rolling basis. To discuss whether our lab might be a good fit for your postdoc, please email Adrianna. Please submit your CV, a cover letter explaining your research background and specific interests in the San Roman Lab, and contact information for three references.
Individuals with a PhD degree (or near the completion of their degree) in the biomedical sciences, including genetics, molecular and cell biology, developmental biology, stem cell and regenerative biology, or computational biology are encouraged to apply. Experience with human subjects research, cell culture, next-generation sequencing, epigenetics techniques, or computational analysis using R is a plus, but not a prerequisite – we will encourage the applicant to develop the skills that they will need to carry out their projects.
