Tales From the 2024 Molecular Genetics and Microbiology Retreat

From Friday 09.06 to Saturday 09.07, we took a trip to Greensboro, North Carolina to participate in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology’s Annual Retreat. The two days we spent in “Tournament Town” were filled were fascinating talks, a successful poster session, and our debut as a trivia team.

It was a wonderful experience to interact with the curious minds in our department as well as learn about the topics that excite and inspire them. We hope to continue bringing this positive energy and enthusiasm into our work as well!

Take a Hike!

In between talks, we took an impromptu hike at the Bog Garden at Benjamin Park! (But next time we’ll bring our hiking boots)

From left to right: Vivian, Dr. Adrianna, Ariella, Hannah, Molly, and Erin!

*Hannah and Erin are our rotating grad students!

Ariella presenting her prize-winning poster! We are so proud of her!

In addition to being our wonderful research technician, Molly has been hard at work exploring the physical “architecture” of the human genome - she shared her preliminary findings on her poster!

What is “The San Roman Empire?”

We came away from MGM trivia with first place after answering questions about pop culture, physics, and Duke history. Can we defend our title at next year’s retreat?

Thank you for catching up with the San Roman Lab - stay tuned for more exciting explorations and events!
